Anarchy film and botany
Research in art, film, in collaboration with Stéphanie Lagarde

Anarchy film and botany was founded in 2020 by Stéphanie Lagarde and Constantin Jopeck, both visual artists and art researchers in residence at the ESACM Research Cooperative. Working on common themes and questions, AFB aimes to create parallels between human policies and collaborative models and the behaviours of animals and plants, as well as their respective strategies of space occupation, survival and cooperation. Stéphanie Lagarde and Constantin Jopeck also propose an experimental visual work based on their study of observation tools and the production of scientific images and will draw inspiration from certain case studies (micro-organisms, lichen, beetles, praying mantis) to highlight the notions of refuge and dispersion in their storytelling.

“Mise en carte“
film, in production with the support of the CNC (development grant) & Cité de la dentelle et de la mode de Calais (Fr)

Mise en carte is an experimental documentary film inspired by the clandestine journey of the first lace looms in the early 19th century. The film looks at the “mise en carte”, which consists of translating the lace pattern into a technical drawing, and builds a parallel with the smuggling route by which the looms arrived in France. From the mists of Nottinghamshire to Calais’ coastline, Mise en carte follows the forbidden path of lace and suggests that it is the hidden entrance of industrial capitalism into Northern Europe.
